I keep looking at the boxes of equipment that I have stacked in my garage awaiting progressive re-distribution onto my boat, such things as spare filters, life raft, oil, spare life preservers, tools, etc, etc, etc and I decided that it wasn`t going to be today that I tidied and sorted it out ready, as my Garage is well below freezing -5 (arent they all) and I thought that some other exercise would be good, so Off to Guildford I went for a walk. Guilford is an old university town with many medievil buildings and graveyards, through which acces paths wind down, from the higher levels of the upper streets, where the carpark is situated. In the valley there is a river the "Mole" which is quite good to explore by boat which we did, about thirty years ago complete with dog, and had a great time, watching the wild life, water voles, ducks and feeding the swans which often pecked on the hull of the boat when they were hungry. As well as negotiating a seventy foot canakl boat from the guildford boat house around the twists and turns of the narrow river (stream really) There were a number of pubs, that served great food so I didnt go hungry or short of a pint.
As I was returning, to my car, after about three bracing hours, I walked up one of the above mentioned paths through the oldest church yard in Guildford, which happend to back onto the rear ( postage stamp sized) garden of a local pub. As I drew closer I spotted about six guys smoking heartily and reading the names of those that had been buried in the church yard from the stones now installed agains the perimiter wall, some before Sir Walter Reilly brought the weed back from the Americas, I`m sure.
READ NO FURTHER AS ANOTHER "ROBYRANT" IS ABOUT TO START
I wish I had never smoked and I wish that for the rest of the world too. My mother died of Lung Cancer when I was aged seven, as a direct result of chain smoking ( Players Weights) through the bombing of the war 38/45 aged 32 what a tragedy, unfortunately it still goes on (get off your high horse Rob!!) all because government`s can`t afford to stop receiving the tax revenue it brings. Think of the cost saving on health care maybe? I`m done, no more rant!
Oh yea what about the tax on petrol and diesel and fuel in general and the increasing "If you have to have it! Tax it " attitude of governments today, how long before the old are taxed on the logs collected from common woods and such :o(( Oh! and the speed cameras (not so hidden tax) our upholders of law would sooner trap a speeding motorist than clear up drug rings in the capitals, Now that is dangerous! Im really done now!!! :o((
